This is a pair of mint, unissued, unused bundle of 10 pairs of wool trigger finger mittens, dated May 15, 1943. These mittens are described in the US Army Quartermaster Catalog of 1943 as Mittens, Insert, Trigger Finger, Type 1, Stock No. 73-M-2735 Large 73-M-2740 Medium, A knitted wool liner to be worn inside mitten-shell, trigger finger, type 1, to form a cold climate hand wear assembly. Trigger finger on the back to fit in the outer shell.

The mittens are still tied in a bundle of 10, with original carboard label, just as they came from the factory in 1943. The mittens are sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard, one of the pieces is printed with: 10 PAIRS MITTENS, Insert, Trigger Finger, Type 1, SIZE LARGE, MEN'S, Stock Number 73-M-2735, Q. W-669 qm 29123, May 15, 1943, STAR MFG. " Each pair of mittens has an attached size they read: "SIZE LARGE.

These mittens were commonly worn by troops in the European Theater of Operations (ETO), including troops of the US 10th Mountain Division, but also GI's of the 82nd and 101st Airborne divisions and 1st, 2nd, 4th, 9th, 28th, 30th, 35th, 75th, 78th, 83rd, 84th, 90th, 99th, and 106th infantry divisions, and 3rd, 4th, and 10th Armored divisions involved in the Battle of the Bulge. I have included some photos of soldiers with the Type I mittens worn during the Battle of the Bulge. This buncle of 10 pairs of mittens, size Large, was never issued or used, they are in mint condition.
No moth damage, they are clean, each pair has its original individual size tag. The label is in fine shape.
