   WWII US Army Tanker Jacket 1945 296th Quartermaster Salvage Repair Co WW2. This is an ORIGINAL WWII era US Army Tankers jacket. Wool lined This was owned by Francis H. Smith of Florence CO, 37352998. He served in the 296th Quartermaster Salvage Repair Company, and he was in WWII in Europe from late 1944 through 1945. You can see his name in the Unit Roster which is also original from WWII and is included. It has no size tag, but measures 17 inches shoulder to shoulder, 18 inches armpit to armpit, 24 inches shoulder to cuff and is 48 inches in overall length. The "Overcoat, Wool, Roll Collar" was first issued in 1939 with brass buttons, similar to a design in use since 1927. It featured an olive drab, double breasted, wollen overcoat made with a convertible roll collar with notched lapels. This overcoat was issued to every soldier along with his service uniform to provide sufficient warmth for winter campaigns.   (J181) For sale here is a very good looking US WW2 Enlisted Overcoat that was Converted to a Jeep Coat. The conversion has been very nicely done, and I assume it was a tailor conversion. The coat is made from heavy coarse wool. The kind of wool found on an enlisted overcoat. The coat has all yellow Lucite buttons, and they are all present.
