The ATP (Army Trade Pattern) is the true British Military watch of WWII. These were supplied to the British forces through a MoD contract with Swiss watch manufacturers in 1939. The more famous WWW wasn't issued until 1943. There were 17 suppliers of ATP watches: Buren, Cortebert, Cyma, Ebel, Enicar, Eterna, Font, Grana, Lemania, Leonidas, Moeris, Reconvillier, Record, Revue, Rotary, Timor, and Unitas. Ebel, Revue, and Timor each produces two types of watches, so in total there are about 20 watches in the ATP series. At least 133,600 ATP watches were manufactured. The Leonidas ATP is a watch that doesnt conform to the normal ATP specification. Its fitted with spring bars rather than fixed bars. The dial is silver/white and signed Leonidas (very few were unsigned). The case is 31mm chromed brass, the back-plate is the six slot type. Its fitted with a 15 jewel Fontainemelon FHF cal 186. The case carries the case ref between the bottom lugs: ref 1018. The caseback has the broad arrow and ATP stamped on, and an issue serial number in the range of 10x, xxx to 11x, xxx and 41x, xxx. This is a gorgeous stunner in excellent original condition! The original white/silver dial is in excellent condition, with light patina. The blued hands still pop gorgeously, such a beautiful sight to see.

The chromed case is in good condition, the plating is worn. The caseback is stamped with the correct ATP markings.

The watch is a ref 1018, powered by a manual wind FHF cal 186. Service history unknown, but it works great and keeps time.

It measures 31,2mm diameter without crown, and 38,1mm from lug to lug. The spring bars are removable. Some history on the Leonidas brand. Leonidas Watch Co was founded in 1841. In 1912 it was bought by the son of the founder of Excelsior Park, notorious for their fantastic chronographs.

Henceforth Leonidas became a powerhouse and industry standard for excellent chronographs. Next the quartz crisis hit, and in 1985 Heuer Leonidas became TAG Heuer. As with all vintage watches without service history, I'd recommend a service for optimal timekeeping and functionality. Comes as shown in the pictures.
