This jacket was produced under a pre-Pearl Harbor Quartermaster Corps contract dated January 15, 1941, making it an early WWII example. Manufactured by Frank Garrido & Sons, Inc. And retaining original brass U. Army eagle buttons, shoulder epaulets, and period-correct construction. Original WWII US Army 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion Para Jump Wings Sterling. Very nice original US Army item. Pin-back fastener with barrel-catch, measures 1-1/2 wide. The Corps of Engineers emblem in gilt silver is riveted to the center of the parachute. An excellent, authentic, and rare badge. In World War II, the U. Army had two established Airborne Engineer Battalions: the 307th and the 127th. The 307th was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, while the 127th was the second to be activated. These two units were the only ones to remain as permanent Airborne Engineer Battalions...

One that may be a name/initials appears to be etched in the leather by hand. The remaining markings appear to be stamped. Most prominent is the half curved markings "HERMAN KAUFMAN" and below it BERLIN N. I found this item myself about 10 years ago in a long sealed-up surplus store warehouse within a large tri-wall cardboard container having many very old field gear odds-&-ends that were primarily US.
