Original WWII US Army First Special Service Force DI / DUI / Distinctive Unit Insignia / Crest. Although under the command of the US 5th Army whilst fighting in Italy, the FSSF. Was an elite combined commando unit of American and Canadian service. Personnel, which ultimately became the genesis for the modern US Army Special Forces (Green Berets) and Canadian Special Operations Regiment (CSOR). During WW2 the FSSF were famously known as'The Devil's Brigade'.
The DI is in excellent condition. Die struck with no hallmark, the pinback attachment has a fully working roller catch lock. The DI measures 26mm by 14mm.
