SCARCE Original World War II 3 Inch Sterling Silver Army Air Corps Flight Engineer Wings. This beautiful, heavy, full size, 3 inch WWII Army Air Corps Flight Engineer sterling wing was stamped from a thick sheet of sterling silver, generating a flat backed badge (not scooped out as many examples are).
The wings are a very robust-looking design, with moderate, untouched, obverse patina. The wings have a long, horizontal fixation pin on the rear, suspended between a hinge on the right wing, and a fine, operable, undamaged roller catch on the left wing. It appears that the wing began manufacture as an Observer wing, then the radial engine and 4-blade prop emblem was soldered into place. The reverse of the center bears the stamped hallmark: NS MEYER, INC. " then "NEW YORK, then the Meyer shield emblem.
