Here is a very rare item, a WWII US Army arctic parka hand-painted just after the war with GIESSEN YELLOW JACKETS on the back, in reference to the Frankford Yellow Jackets (Philadelphia football team famous in the 1920s). Giessen was a town in Germany occupied by the US Army after the war and a large military base was established there, with over 10,000 American soldiers and their families inhabiting the base at one point. The US Army sanctioned the formation of football teams in occupied Germany and a dedicated following of players and spectators emerged as post-war GIs were looking for some R&R after the war into the mid-late 1940s. These parkas often served in the place of football uniforms during cold weather matches.

Also included from the same GI is his overseas cap and a football program from a US Army match in 1948 held in Wetzler, Germany with the Wetzler Rams vs. The names of the players and their field positions as well as hometowns are listed in the program, along with a colorful ad for Coca-Cola. Condition: parka is good condition, some splatter to sleeves as shown.

Fur is intact and good. Painting on back is superb condition and is not cracking whatsoever. Very detailed, highly skilled painting.

Cap is soiled and worn. The program had been folded up years ago and stored in a uniform pocket.

This came from a GI's family in Central Pennsylvania, near Harrisburg. I don't have his name but may be able to track it down with time. This item is in the category "Collectibles\Militaria\WW II (1939-45)\Original Period Items\United States\Uniforms".
