THEY ARE HOLDING ITEMS IN THE US LONGER. WWII US ARMY/USMC/USN M-1 HELMET STEEL POT # 76C FIRST LINER HAWLEY NAMED. The Hawley helmet is getting more difficult to find in decent condition. This has been in my collection for many years, and I have kept the helmet and liner protected. These early helmets were used at Guadalcanal, and the liners didnt hold up very well in the jungles.

They were discontinued in November of 1942. Helmets Steel Pot Fixed Bale Color Olive drab with particles of cork which gave the helmet a coarse appearance Steel Pot Original Paint About 90 % with a small area of rust Inside Helmet Number 76C Chinstraps Olive drab webbing Chinstraps Length 10 ½ and 4 ½ inches Chinstrap Color Olive drab Leather Thin Chinstrap Has been cut and removed Buckles Brass and attached Inside Pot No rust Condition Excellent for its age Liner Type Hawley, first fiber liners were produced along with the first order of M-1 pots. Named Robert T Bauer 17040076 Interior Consists of Rayon Riddle suspension systems Sweatband Color White rayon webbing and a piece of leather sewn on the front of the webbing Liner Outside has rust and no large cracks or damage to the rim liner Liner Material Pressed cardboard covered with a layer of fabric Production Late 1941 and discontinued November of 1942 Condition For a Hawley, the condition is really nice. Most Hawley liners are very badly damaged around the rim area.
