This is the aluminum box that I believe was used on the Phillips Pack Saddle. It has been used for quite a while to hold gun cleaning supplies and had some oil residue on the inside. It seems like the gun oil may have helped to preserve the interior. There wasn't a lot of oil residue and I have only wiped it out with some paper towels.

The riveted in liner is still present and covers the bottom, front and both ends. The liner looks like it is in good condition. The rivets that hold the liner appear to be copper on the interior and have some tarnish on them. The latch on the front is magnetic, so I would say that it is steel, and it has not rusted.

The attachment points for the strap on top are not magnetic and they seem to be aluminum. The piano hinge is brass. It measures 16-5/8" long, 6-7/16" tall, and 3-3/4 front to back.

I would say that the box is overall in good condition, especially for it's age and in comparison to others I have seen. The brown leather strap is worn through. The paint has chips, cracks, scuffs, and areas that are flaking but it is mostly still present. It has dirt and dust which is mainly on the top, but some in other areas, and I do not want to clean that off because someone may want it to look old and have the patina that it now has.
It would also make a good candidate for restoration or to be cleaned and displayed as is. I only see one small dent on box itself, on the right end when viewing from the front stenciled side, and that is shown in the pictures.
