Army Air Forces Ike Jacket - Named to Technical Sergeant Milton Bacon Rice (Bronze Star Recipient). Offered here is an original World War II U. Army Air Forces "Ike" service jacket identified to Technical Sergeant Milton Bacon Rice, a combat veteran who served in the European Theater during WWII. Research indicates that Milton Bacon Rice enlisted in the U.

Army in 1943 at approximately 18 years old. After training at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, he deployed to Europe in October 1944. He served with the 94th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron during the Allied advance across France and Germany.

During combat operations his unit came under intense enemy fire while evacuating wounded soldiers. Rice remained behind to cover the withdrawal of his troop, protecting the wounded and helping ensure their safe evacuation. For his bravery and actions under fire he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. His unit continued advancing through Germany and was present during the liberation of prisoner-of-war camps, including Stalag VII-A near Nuremberg, one of the largest POW camps in Germany.

He attended Duke University on the GI Bill and graduated in 1950 before returning to farm in his home state. He lived a long life and passed away in 2020. The left shoulder retains the original Army Air Forces shoulder sleeve insignia (blue background with gold wings and white star with red center). The sleeves display horizontal stripes indicating the rank of Technical Sergeant.

Small holes and impressions are visible on the collar where the original brass collar insignia were once mounted, which is common on WWII service jackets where insignia were later removed. The jacket remains in good vintage condition for its age and displays well. The wool body remains structurally solid. The uniform shows honest wear consistent with an original WWII garment approximately 80 years old. Several small moth nips / pinholes in the wool. Small holes in the collar from removed insignia. Minor interior lining wear and light seam separation. Light discoloration in some areas of the lining. These signs of wear are typical for WWII wool uniforms and confirm period use.

Named WWII uniforms connected to documented soldiers are increasingly difficult to find. This jacket represents a tangible artifact belonging to a decorated American soldier who served in combat during World War II. Items identified to specific soldiers, particularly those awarded combat decorations such as the Bronze Star, are highly sought after by collectors and historians.
