This is an original poster from the estate of Ruth Von Euw, originally from the personal collection of her father, Stephen Von Euw, who had been the editor of the Rockville (CT) Journal from the 1930s until his death in 1955. During World War II, Von Euw had made sure that every local serviceman and servicewomen received free copies of the newspaper wherever they were posted. This is an old item dated to the WWII period, as such, you should expect wear commensurate with age and use, as pictured.

There are roll and fold markings, as well as chipping. There may be stains, wrinkles, minor nicks, rips at the edges, and other signs of wear. This poster measures approximately 38 inches in height and 25 inches in width.
The design for "Wings Over America" was created by artist Thomas Woodburn in 1939. Major Thomas Woodburn served as the editor and art director of Recruiting News during World War II. The purpose of posters from this era was multifaceted. They aimed to instill a positive outlook, fostering a sense of patriotism and confidence among the people. These posters sought to bridge the gap between the war on the frontlines and the war on the homefront. They had a practical role in encouraging all Americans to contribute to the war effort, urging personal sacrifices and domestic adjustments to advance the national agenda. They promoted rationing, conservation, and sacrifice while also being used for recruitment, productivity, motivation, and financing the war effort. These posters, known for their stark and colorful graphic designs, stirred strong emotions, addressing the fears, frustrations, and faith in freedom prevalent during the war.
