Original Soviet Wwii / Ww2 Red Army Wartime Pilotka Side Cap Krasniy Voin
Original Soviet WWII / WW2 Red Army Wartime Pilotka Side Cap Krasniy Voin. A well-worn wartime Soviet pilotka from the Red Warrior, or Krasniy Voin factory, based in Moscow.
These caps were worn by the rank-and-file enlisted men of the Red Army throughout WWII, and they remain a symbol of the Soviet war effort during WWII. Original examples are quite hard to come by, even within Russia, due to the fact that many were completely worn through or recycled for fabric during the postwar material shortages. On the inside is a somewhat faded stamp for the Krasniy Voin factory, which is the same style of stamp used by this factory during the war. This cap is in salty condition, likely from a mix of service life and improper storage. The fabric is quite faded, but appears to be a period correct cotton twill.
The badge is an early postwar replacement with a nearly identical look to a wartime cockade. There is a fabric tear on the back, with much discoloration and staining throughout the rest of the cap. Of note is that there are rusted remnants of the split pins belonging to the original cockade that this pilotka once had. The cap is marked as size 58. Its lining is in intact shape with no damage, though there is much staining on the inside. Overall, a very nice, and hard worn example of the iconic pilotka cap, perfect for a Soviet collection or an Eastern Front display. Reasonable offers are more than welcome.
