A superb authentic WW2 period goatskin leather flight jacket, size 38 chest. This particular flight jacket is a M-422A, AN 6552, or.
AN-J-3A specification, but its exact identity is unknown, by me or the original owner, as this was a'sterile' issue garment - i. Part of a production run that never had any interior nomenclature label or back collar USN or US stencil. This I can say for sure as I procured the jacket from the original owner who worked for the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation. In New York during WW2 and the Korean War.
The gentleman in question was'unofficially' issued the size 38 jacket in 1943, due to its lack of official markings, where it remained a'Sunday best' jacket for decades and which is why it has remained in such good condition. The jacket is overall excellent shape. The veg-tanned goatskin is wonderfully characterful and subtle with many, many years of life left in it. The rayon lining was worn through in places so was professionally replaced to exact vintage lining spec some years ago by Aero Leathers of Scotland, along with the wool knit sleeve cuffs. The original wool knit waistband is in perfect condition with absolutely no pulls or moth holes, the original Talon zipper is in perfect working order and the original mid-brown mouton collar is in great condition - soft and with a deep rich colour.
