The US Army Air Forces A-2 is the most iconic leather flight jacket of all time. Along with a "crush" cap, aviator sunglasses and a cigar, the A-2 quickly became symbolic of the daring AAF pilot of WW2.

Original A-2 flight jackets are quite rare today, so the famous Good Wear Leather Coat Company of Washington has produced an exacting recreation of the Rough Wear 42-1401P contract, and in many ways, their version exceeds the original. This US Army AAF WW2 GOOD WEAR PILOT ROUGH WEAR A-2 HORSEHIDE LEATHER FLIGHT JACKET is a top of the line MODERN REPRODUCTION by the famous Good Wear Leather Coat Company. It's in very good condition, with the left cuff having been re-sewn and remaining shorter than the right, moderate to heavy scattered mothing to the knit cuffs and waistband, a small spot of scuffing at the lower middle right front placket, some beautiful fading around the collar, a sizable spot of whitish soiling at the lower back lining, two small spots of fraying and another sizable spot of whitish soiling at the lower left front lining, and with some scattered wear evident (ALL pictured).

Otherwise, the jacket is in fine shape, with no other damage to the rich, tough light russet brown horsehide leather construction. Most interestingly, it's a Size 40, bears the classic TYPE A-2 / CONTRACT NO. 42-1401P / ROUGH WEAR CLOTHING CO. " replica nomenclature label at the inside neck, and features a snap down collar with stand, metal "hook and eye" neck closure, "box and X" stitched leather shoulder straps, one way entry snap flap closure lower front pockets, a fully functional "TALON metal front zipper, brown knit cuffs and waistband, a spun brown cotton lining, OD stitching throughout, and brown finished metal ventilation grommets at the underarms. It also carries a "Western Costume" barcode tag at the upper right back lining; Good Wear and Western Costume both supplied uniforms for the 2012 Tuskegee Airmen film "Red Tails", and it's likely this jacket was part of the production.

Measurements: The jacket measures 22" from underarm to underarm across the chest, 19" from shoulder to shoulder across the back, 23 3/4" from the collar/body seam to the bottom of the knit waistband down the back, and with a 23 3/4" sleeve from the shoulder to the end of the knit cuff.
