Pre World War Two era. United States army officer sword. Highly etched nickel plated blade.
Makers mark at the recasco' American military supply corp New York. Made by Carl Eickhorn prior to WWII. It has the early style nickel plated & a black hard rubber grip. At one time, it had the offices name engraved in the panel, but unfortunately.. The name was buffed off.
Likely by family members or the vet. 39 overall length in the sheath. Unfortunately the scabbard has been exposed to the elements. And light blistering and pitting to the external finish. The space between the suspension rings, is still bright clean. I suspect a sword knot or belt sash was tightly wrapped around that section, protecting it from rusting.. These sabers were worn by all American army officers. Untill the outbreak of WWII. After the war their use was regulated mainly to dress functions and ceremonies. No nicks from abuse or childish sword fighting. It was found tucked in the rafters of a barn owned by a World War Two army vet!
These sabers had stout, battle-worthy tempered steel blades. They were required to be worn on the battlefield during World War One. The Germans learned to pick off any man Seen wearing a sword! Today, they are worn during fancy' full dress' military functions. During the war in Vietnam.
A swashbuckling cavalry officer named Alan Cozzalio. Raided a NVA bunker and eliminated several north Vietnamese enemy combatants using one of these swords!
American Army Officer's Sword with scabbard. With just minor rust at the base, near the hilt. Too bad the sheath is rusted. 39 inches overall in length. Don't pass it up!
