This is an original wartime training manual for the Type 99 Light Machine Gun , issued by the Imperial Japanese Army in October 1941 (Showa 16). What is the Type 99 Light Machine Gun? The Type 99 Light Machine Gun was the Imperial Japanese Army's standard squad automatic weapon developed in 1939, meant to replace the earlier Type 96 LMG. It was chambered in the powerful 7.7×58mm round, providing greater firepower compared to the 6.5×50mm Type 96.

Origins: Developed by Kijiro Nambu, based on the ZB-26/Bren design concept. Top-fed, 30-round magazine for sustained fire. Bipod-mounted for stability in infantry engagements. Quick-change barrel system to prevent overheating. Integrated monopod on the stock, unique to Japanese LMGs. Combat Use: Widely used from the Pacific Islands to China, though hampered by ammunition shortages and battlefield logistics. Why This Manual is Important. This is an official military-issued document, not a post-war reprint. Manuals like this were essential for training, and few have survived due to wartime destruction and post-war confiscation. The schematics and technical breakdowns provide an invaluable historical insight into the weaponry and training doctrines of the Imperial Japanese Army.

Authentic wartime printing from Showa 16 (1941). Illustrated with diagrams detailing assembly, disassembly, and operation.

Some wear and minor damage, consistent with age. A must-have for WWII collectors, military historians, and firearms researchers. These manuals are increasingly rare and highly sought after. International Buyers - Please Note. Thank you for your understanding.
