Japanese Army Officer Sword War Time Civilian Mounts Old Koto Grooved Blade Ww2
This is a good example of a War Time Era Japanese Sword carried by an Army Officer during World War II. It is mounted with an ancestral grooved KOTO blade that wears a cutting edge that measures 21 inches in length. The blade has survived in nice condition with only minor surface blemishes and continues to boast a lovely wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side.
The tang shows to have been shortened throughout the years and wears three holes with only the following portion of the signature still present which reads: Izumi no kami Fujiwara?? The pommel kashira is now missing and the hilt reflects and old War-Time field wrapping repair as well as is mounted with an old cast iron tsuba. The wooden scabbard continues to wear a portion of its combat leather covering and although weathered, still does its job well. Overall, the Sword measures 33 5/8 inches in length.
