100% Genuine Ww2 Japanese Army Military Officer Gunto Sword. Signed Yasumitsu
You have found a 100% Genuine WW2 Japanese Army Officer sword! Also known as Type 98 Shin Gunto or Yasukunito! Sword is chisel signed " Yasumitsu ". Obverse tang reads " Showa Jusan-Nen Hatchi-Gatsu Kichi Jitsu ". Yasumitsu's real name is Ikeda Shuji. Born in Yamagata Prefecture in Nov. A master swordsmith of Nihonto Tanrenkai located at the Yasukuni Shrine. No more than 1100 blades were produced by Yasumitsu at Yasukuni Shrine.
Listed in John Slough's book page 186. Cutting edge is a little over 26 inch. Entire sword in scabbard is 40 inch.
Blade is massive, thick and traditional hand forged with active straight. Chusuguba temper line and a deep o-maru temper point! Blade shows original war time polish and it's very sharp! Very active yokote and kissaki point! Visible Yasuri-me (smith's private file mark) on tang!
There's no rust, no stain, no bend, no crack and no fatal flaw! Very clean and minty condition! Scabbard is heavy metal with no dent and no bend and shows minor aged lacquer loss.
Scabbard retains more than 80% of it's original paint! High end pierced tsuba with natural patina!
