This is a WWII Imperial Japanese Army commemorative hanging scroll set, painted and presented in 1938 to celebrate the early stage of the Second Sino-Japanese War (known as the "China Incident" in Japanese official documents at that time). The artwork features an auspicious combination of cranes, turtles, pine trees, and a rising sun, symbols of longevity, prosperity, and harmony in East Asian tradition. The scroll bears the inscription. (Commemoration of the Japan-China Incident). Signed by artist Teiken , and comes in its original wooden storage box with additional dedication. Such scrolls were not mass-produced; they were usually presented to officers or associated parties during military operations. A perfect addition to any WWII, militaria, or Japanese art collection.
