Original WWII British Army Service Dress tunic to a Colonel of The Green Howards (Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regiment). Rank insignia: Crown with two Bath stars (Colonel), present on both shoulders. Regimental insignia: The Green Howards. War Medal 1939-45 with oak leaf (Mentioned in Despatches). The tailor's label bears a handwritten officer's name; however, it is now too faint to confidently read. The name remains present and may be decipherable by a dedicated researcher. Interior lining remains intact with expected age-related wear.
No significant seam separation or lining replacement observed. The oak leaf device confirms the officer was officially Mentioned in Despatches. Tunic is privately tailored by. Jones Chalk & Dawson Ltd.
16 Sackville Street, Piccadilly, London W1. A high-quality West End military outfitter. Configuration is internally consistent with service in North Africa and the Burma campaign. The Green Howards served in both theatres during WWII. Insignia and ribbon bar appear period mounted.
NOTE: A small card torn in several pieces was found in the upper right pocket. It is unknown if it was written by the soldier or someone who later came in possession of tunic. It is included with the tunic.
