Original WWII US Army Cap, Field, Pile, O. The winter pile cap adopted in 1943 as part of the M1943 cold-weather uniform system.
Wind-resistant, water-repellent olive drab poplin shell over a full alpaca/wool "pile" lining, with a flexible visor that wears up or down and long pile-lined ear flaps that fold down and tie under the chin for extreme cold. A genuine wartime-contract example by Ashley Hat Co.
With a clear interior label: Spec P. Tagged Size 7 or 56cm (fits roughly a 22 head). Condition: Solid, honest vintage condition.
Shell is clean with light age; pile lining is full and soft throughout; label fully intact and legible. Minor wear with a small original reinforcing tack at the rear seam (pictured). Fit: True close-fitting winter cap, cut to sit under a helmet or hood.
