The revolutionary M-1943 set the bar for the future of Army field jackets: It was originally designed to replace the M-1941, which was found to be unsuitable for protecting troops in colder climates. The M-1943 was first issued in 1944 and quickly gained popularity among Army and Marine troops. It continued to be used even during the Korean conflict until it was replaced by the M-1950/1951.
