   Used during the combat operations during the Allied invasion of Italy. The Allied amphibious landing on mainland Italy that took place from 3 September 1943, during the Italian campaign of World War II. The operation was undertaken by General Sir Harold Alexander's 15th Army Group comprising General Mark W. Clark's American Fifth Army and General Bernard Montgomery's British Eighth Army and followed the successful Allied Invasion of Sicily.    Here's an original WW2 airborne invasion flag. It measures approximately 5.50 x 3.75 inches. There are a couple small holes in the armband that give it a nice patina. Here is more information that the dealer from whom I acquired this flag years ago shared with me. This flag measures 5 1/2" X 3 3/4" (13.9 X 9.6 cm). It was originally 6" X 4" but silk will shrink some with age. This flag was never applied to a jacket. I got several boxes of these and other identification flags and armbands in the late 1970's.
