First issued during the Winter of 1943-44 to select troops fighting in Italy, this outfit was finally issued in the ETO starting in September, 1943, and to replacements being equipped in the United States. The uniform became common place by December and prevalent by early Spring 1945. This jacket and trouser is the clothing given to all soldiers except paratroopers. WWII Swiss Army M1918 Helmet. 1943 all Helmets, Canteens and Mess Kits were withdrawn and overpainted grey / black because they were shining in the moonlight when wet. Helmets were overpainted with a mixture of sawdust and black paint. The black painting is coming off now and you can see the original green paint underneath. This vintage US Army WW2 dress jacket was my dad's. He was born in 1921 and died in 1983 and fought in combat in Japan in the mid-1940s. Unfortunately, I don't have much additional information about his rank, etc. But I do have his photos, medals, handbooks, and other patches. Original WWII German M31 map case in decent but well used condition. The closure tab is in good usable condition, which is rare for this model of map case. The internal divider is intact. The belt loops are intact and decent. All in all, this is a good example of this model of case. I rarely find one where the closure hasn't rotted off. Great piece for a mannequin.
