   Original WW2 Plastic Economy Cap Badge. These plastic cap badges were introduced as a short-term wartime economy measure and, notably, it is said that they were often unpopular with soldiers and discarded in favour of the earlier metal versions. The badge is bakelite plastic in composition, with brass lugs to the rear. 2.75" wide x 1.5" high (6.5cm x 4cm). Remains a very nice original example. Please see photos for further detail. US Army 473rd Infantry Regiment was created very late in WW2, fighting in the Italian campaign from January 1945. Assembled from re-roled and re-trained Anti Aircraft Artillery (AAA) units no longer needed at that stage of the war, the unit was nicknamed'Flakfeet'.
